General submissions
The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts offers multiple exhibition and programming opportunities for established, as well as emerging artists. The TCVA focuses on a variety of techniques in two and three-dimensional media. Artist proposals will be accepted at any time and are reviewed by committee on a rotating basis.
Submittal process
Artists are encouraged to submit a professional "packet of information" that may include resumes, proposals, artist statements and a selection of images along with any other appropriate material. The materials packet should include information about the artist along with all current contact information. The curatorial committee will accept submissions in multiple formats including: mailed submissions, e-mailed submissions, PDF documents and websites. Images can be viewed in photograph, slide, digital and website formats.
Mailed submissions will be returned to the artist providing that the artist includes a return self-addressed, stamped envelope. If the TCVA feels that the work may fit within future plans and/or exhibitions, the submission packet will be retained for reference upon notification to the artist. Questions regarding the submission process may be sent directly the exhibition coordinator.

Annual Competition Opportunities
Rosen Outdoor Sculpture Competition & Exhibition
A program of An Appalachian Summer Festival and Appalachian State University, the Rosen Outdoor Sculpture Competition & Exhibition annually brings ten new works to the university campus. The setting, installation assistance, printed materials, corporate sales program, $10,000 in honorariums and awards, and our commitment to artists and education combine to offer this premier venue for contemporary outdoor sculpture. A complete archive and further information is located on the competition's website located at http://www.rosensculpture.org. The deadline for entries is April 13, 2012.
The Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition
The Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition (AMPC) is an annual program of Appalachian State University's Outdoor Programs (scholarship fundraiser) in partnership with the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation and the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts. This competition features a complete online submission system and provides both amateur and professional photographers the opportunity to showcase their interpretation of the unique character, people, places and pursuits that distinguish the Southern Appalachians. The 9th Annual Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition (AMPC) opens for registration and submissions in August 2011. Amateur and professional photographers 13 years of age and older are encouraged to submit their work using the submission system located on the Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition's website.
Biennial Competition Opportunities
The Halpert Biennial Competition & Exhibition
A program of An Appalachian Summer Festival and Turchin Center for the Visual Arts, the Halpert Biennial is a national juried competition and exhibition designed to recognize new works created by emerging and established artists residing within the United States. It has grown exponentially over the past years and features some of the most exciting, new visual art being produced in the country. Recent exhibitions have included more computer-generated works, however the Halpert's strength lies in the featured artists' reliance on traditional techniques and mediums utilized in innovative ways. The awards for the competition amount to $5,000. For more information or to be added to the competitions mailing list, please contact turchincenter@appstate.edu. The deadline for this competition falls in early spring of alternating years (2011, 2013 etc...).
